PSHE Jigsaw

At UET Pathfinder, we use Jigsaw PSHE.

Jigsaw PHSE is a comprehensive, mindful curriculum for Personal, Social, Health, and Economic education. It is a structured, whole-school approach that incorporates emotional literacy, social skills, and mindfulness alongside statutory Relationships and Health Education requirements. The program aims to help children understand themselves and their relationships with others and the world around them.

All year groups at UET Pathfinder, work on the same half-termly theme, known as a “Puzzle,” at their own age-appropriate level. Every lesson starts with a mindfulness exercise (“Calm Me Time”) to help students regulate their emotions, focus their attention, and manage stress. Jigsaw includes and fully meets the Relationships and Health Education (RSHE) statutory requirements in England. The program’s content is revisited and built upon year after year, reinforcing and extending key concepts as children grow. The curriculum emphasizes emotional literacy, mental health, and social development to nurture the “whole child”. Resources are designed to reflect a wide range of cultures, identities, and lived experiences to promote understanding and empathy

The Jigsaw curriculum is structured around six core themes, or “Puzzles,” that cover the full school year.

  • Being Me in My World: Focuses on a child’s place in the class and global community, as well as rights and responsibilities.
  • Celebrating Difference: Includes anti-bullying education (including cyberbullying) and promotes diversity.
  • Dreams and Goals: Covers setting goals and aspirations, and working together to achieve them.
  • Healthy Me: Addresses physical and mental health, including healthy eating, exercise, and managing stress.
  • Relationships: Explores friendships, family relationships, and communication skills.
  • Changing Me: Involves Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) in an age-appropriate way, addressing the physical and emotional changes associated with growth.
