Maths

The mathematics curriculum is broken down into small, logical steps, allowing pupils to build confidence and progress steadily through a topic. White Rose Maths Mastery uses the CPA (concrete, pictorial, and abstract) approach, where new concepts are first introduced with hands-on, concrete resources, then through pictorial representations, before moving to abstract symbols.

White Rose Maths provides a comprehensive, mastery-based approach to teaching mathematics for students from early years through to GCSE. Its resources align with the national curriculum.

The program emphasizes a deep, secure understanding of mathematical concepts over simply memorizing procedures. This approach focuses on developing fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.

The schemes of learning are divided into blocks that correspond to the autumn, spring, and summer terms. This ensures consistency across year groups.

Within the Mathematics department we aim to ensure that every student (whatever their mathematical ability) leaves their UET Pathfinder Academy with a Mathematics qualification.

Students are given the opportunity to achieve at:

Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Qualifications, progressing from Entry Level to Level 2.

· AQA Entry level Certificate

· GCSE (AQA) achieving Levels 9-1

As a team we aspire to give every student the best possible Mathematics outcome from their experience at the UET Pathfinder Academy, allowing them to access the next step of their education or journey into training.
